Looking to obtain your OUPV License from the US Coast Guard? Take your courses with Northeast Maritime Institute and follow this guide. Also known as a Charter Boat License, this license allows you to captain a vessel with up to six (6) paying passengers.
Minimum Age Required
- 18 years
Sea Service Requirements
- Near Coastal: 360 days of service, of which 90 days of service on Ocean, Near Coastal, or Great lakes waters
- Great Lakes: 360 days of service, of which 90 days of service on Great Lakes
- Inland: 360 days of service
Recency: 90 Days in the past 3 years on vessels
Application Requirements
- Completed USCG Application including sea service documentation
- USCG Physical Examination
- USCG Drug Test
- Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
Training Requirements
- OUPV Course
- First Aid & CPR
- FCC Radio Operator’s Permit
- Assistance Towing (optional)
- Auxiliary Sail (optional)
