Northeast Maritime Institute Selected as Training Provider for Ørsted’s NETP

Northeast Maritime Institute has been selected as a training vendor for the Navigation Enhancement and Training Program for Rhode Island and Massachusetts Commercial and For-Hire Fisherman (NETP). The program offers vouchers for RI and MA fishermen to receive professional maritime training.

NMI recommends that fishermen take advantage of this program to expand their employment opportunities, particularly in the professional maritime industry, which plays a significant role in the offshore wind sector. Ørsted and Eversource are currently developing South Fork Wind off the coast of Long Island which will generate 132 megawatts of offshore wind energy, providing enough power for more than 70,000 homes.

Specific program details are as follows:
Owners of eligible vessels may nominate two crew members for professional mariner training at a preapproved training facility (such as Northeast Maritime Institute).

• Each will receive a voucher worth $1,000 toward approved training
• Suggested courses include Operator of an Uninspected Passenger Vessel, radar observer, rules of the road refresher, or customized courses for safe navigation within wind farms.

*Voucher recipients will be responsible for any expenses that exceed the value of the voucher.
